MAX’S TAVS

A Knight of Mielikki with a stubborn personality and a strong sense of justice. She always means well, even when most of the times she ends up making things worse. The best way to describe her is probably "There was an Attempt".

ABOUT

Born out of the unexpected love story between a Cambion Sorceress and a Half-Elf Druid, Elyr was bound to have a rather unconventional upbringing from the start. Her mother Dalia, a servant of Mephistopheles, was part of the efforts to keep Raphael from getting the Crown of Karsus, which in turn kept her away from her family. In an effort to keep Elyria and Roza safe in case Raphael found out, the two of them lived solely with their father, Elorin, a former Chosen of Mielikki and Green Regent, in hopes to get them to connect with their Druid ancestry in the future. After finding out about Dalia’s involvement in keeping him away from the crown, Raphael struck a deal with a Bhaalist assassin as a way to get back at her. The following bloodshed resulted in Elorin sacrificing himself to save his daughters, yet he could not save Roza from becoming susceptible to the assassin’s Bhaalist magic, something that would leave her with a permanent mark. Realising just how unsafe it truly was to have them around while Raphael was alive, Dalia figured it’d be for the best if she disappeared from her children’s life for good, and so she left them at the doorstep of a Mielikkian temple in the wilderness.Even though the Temple’s Mielikkian Clerics had their hesitations taking in two hellspawn, the sisters were taken in by the Temple’s resident Elveln Paladin Tasalor, who raised them as his own. Being just like her father, Elyria had a connection with natural magic, much to the happiness of the local Nature Goddess worshippers, yet her sister seemed to lack her connection to the wilderness, instead focusing her whole attention on blades and steel, following the guidance of a voice she heard in her head that everyone else seemed to consider an imaginary friend if anything. After hearing this voice in her head for so long, Roza followed it to the edge of the Shadow-Cursed Lands, never to be seen again. Feeling guilty for her sister’s disappearance, Elyr swore at the early age of 9 that she’d make it her life’s work to find a way to lift the deathly curse and find her sister. She trained under Tasalor’s mentorship to become a Paladin of Mielikki, and after swearing under the Oath of the Ancients, she set off with her fellow Mielikki worshipper and best friend Nadia to cleanse the Sword Coast from the creatures of Darkness in search of a way to lift the Shadow Curse.Thirty years went by for the duo in the blink of an eye, and thirty years was how long it took for Elyr to be able to make any progress on her quest to find her sister. During a visit to the temple they were raised in, Elyr and Nadia found out Tasalor had also gone missing near the Cursed Lands and decided to investigate his whereabouts. It’s while in this investigation that the two of them got ambushed by Thorm’s soldiers and taken to Moonrise Towers, where Elyr got put in the Nautiloid and had the tadpole inserted into her eye.

COMPANION QUEST

Knight of Leaves

ACT IElyr’s companion quest starts with her also being a nautiloid survivor, though she’s already in the grove by the time the player’s party gets there. Her main goal is to get to the shadow-cursed lands in search of her sister, but seeing the peril the tieflings find themselves in, she’s getting ready to head out and save Halsin from the goblin camp to try to settle things, and that’s when she joins the party. Her in-camp dialogue revolves around her mentioning her quest to return to Moonrise Towers to defeat Ketheric and rescue her sister, as well as her mentioning that everything she does, she does in honour of Mielikki. When the player questions the self-sacrifices she has made for her goddess, Elyr is super defensive and tries to justify everything by making it seem like “it’s for the greater good.”After Astarion’s is revealed to be a vampire, she’ll be disgusted by it and insist on killing him. She doesn’t force anyone to do so, but is disappointed if he leaves since undead are against the Oath of the Ancients. She has a lot of lore-relevant dialogue with the Hag, with Elyr insisting on the only way of solving the matters being killing the Hag. The further they venture into the Hag’s lair, the more uneasy she’ll become. She recognises some of the paladin armour from the knights the Hag mentioned killing, but even though it leaves her shaken, she tries to shake it off. If Elyr is the character talking to Mayrinna after her rescue, she’ll snap the wand without any other option, and even though she’ll feel very bad about doing it, but also tries to brush it off.Upon rescuing Halsin, Elyr starts discussing with him about travelling through the shadow-cursed lands, which leaves her very exited to rush through the rest of act I.ACT IIOnce the party reaches the shadow-cursed lands, Elyr is both fuelled by being so closer to her goal, but also weakened. The Shadows take more of a toll on her than anyone else, and she can barely reach out for the power she gets from Mielikki. She grows uneasy until they reach the Last Light Inn, especially after she realises how at home Shadowheart is among the shadow magic. On the way to Moonrise Towers, Elyr will insist on wiping out all the Thorms, and doing so will increase her approval. After the original confrontation with Ketheric, she’ll insist on looking for Roza, only to find no trace of her except for the room she lived in years ago, where a diary can be found written by Roza herself where she talks about how Ketheric looked after her from a child to her teens. Elyr can read this if the item is given to her. She’ll go through the whole thing, but do her best to deny it and claim it’s fake and that Roza would never say that.At the inn, Elyr will also get a hint from Raphael that he has known her for a long time, though she doesn’t remember him at all and it just leaves her lost and confused. She also learns about Astarion’s scars through his interaction with Raphael. She starts changing her opinions on Astarion with that, leading the two to develop a sibling-like dynamic. At the boss fight with Ketheric, Elyr will confront him about her sister’s whereabouts. Thorm will taunt her about it, telling her how her sister stayed and left willingly and warning Elyr she doesn’t know what her sister has become. After Ketheric’s death, Elyr will insist on taking Ketheric’s armour as a trophy for herself. Even if you allow her to do so, she’ll still look distraught and leave the party temporarily as soon as the player leaves the battle grounds. She’ll be found back at camp after that, gazing at the armour. Tav will then be able to talk to her, where she’ll confesses she’s lost. She was so sure she was going to finally be reunited with the last of her family only to then have that taken away. The player can comfort her, which will trigger a scene where she cries, but also increases her approval further. Wanting to get her mind off of things for now, she’ll suggest lifting the shadow curse, if that hasn’t been done already. If that has already been done, she’ll simply say she’s ready to leave for Balder’s Gate.ACT IIIOnce the party leaves to Baldur’s gate (before the Astral Fight Scene), they will be ambushed and Elyr will be attacked while setting up camp by a figure that is revealed to be Roza. She’ll try to kill Elyr, screaming at her about how Ketheric was hers to kill and hers alone. The player will have to roll a strength check to push Roza off of Elyr and knock her out. Once the threat has been neutralised, Tav will be able to talk to Elyr, seeing her freak out about her sister being here. After Roza comes to, Elyr will be able to interrogate her, but she refuses to accept the bhaalist in front of her is her real sister. The two have a very awkward pacing, and the player will either be able to kick Roza out of the camp, after which she’ll head to Baldur’s gate on her own, or they’ll be able to strike a deal with her where she’ll help them find the temple of Bhaal in exchange for getting revenge on Orin. After reaching Baldur’s Gate, Elyr will learn that she can find out more about her relationship with Raphael through talking to the owner of the Devil’s Fee. Once there, she’ll learn that Raphael is the one responsible for her father’s death. She’ll also be told by Helsik that her mother can be found in Avernus, which will lead both Elyr and Roza to convince the party to raid the House of Hope. Elyr’s character quest battle will end with Raphael’s death. If the player has not already finished the Astarion quest, that’s not the end of her story. At the Cazador battle she’ll try to convince Astarion to not ascend. If her and tav succeed, she’ll then insist on freeing the vampire spawn. The decision will leave her happy since in her eyes, vampires are no longer the monsters she thought they were, but releasing the vampires in the underdark will cause her to break her oath. Her oath breaking will leave Elyr at a loss, but eventually she’ll come to terms with it, understanding that she’d never want to serve an oath that would demand of her to kill innocent beings.Depending on if her Oath is broken or not, Elyr will have different character endings. If Elyr hasn’t killed Raphael: She’ll offer to return with Karlach to Avernus so they can get revenge on Zariel and Raphael. If Raphael has been killed but her oath remains: Elyr will continue her duties as paladin, though she’ll remain in the city and serve as a member of the flaming fist. She’ll start out good, but will eventually grow bitter and more and more cutthroat with her ideals until she becomes a hard-hearted general. If Raphael is killed and her oath is broken: Elyr will go off on her own to start a new Paladin order: the Oath of the Heart, where knights will pledge to do what they think is most right without pledging ideals to any gods.Raphael is dead and you convince her to reclaim her oath: Elyr will get pardoned by Mielikki and becomes her chosen, as well as Green Regent of Greyvale.

ABOUT

Helsing was the youngest son in a family of Gur from a tribe hailing from Neverwinter. From a very early age, Helsing was taught to hunt, scout and survive in the wilderness by himself. One day while out in the town market, a merchant wrongfully accused Helsing’s mother of stealing from him, which escalated into her getting wrongfully arrested. Helsing managed to escape, however he was eventually caught by guards and taken to neverwinter’s prison himself. While in jail, Helsing got visited by the nobleman that owned the supposedly stolen goods. The man gave him the choice between staying in jail or coming to work for him, and not feeling like he had much of a choice, Helsing accepted the man’s proposal. It was while working for said nobleman that Helsing befriended the man’s son, Rostam, with whom he formed a close friendship. As per tradition, the youngest child from each generation in the Nobleman’s house was to be sent off to train under the Order of the Lycan, and so, when he was still a child, Rostam was taken in by the Blood Hunters to learn their ways and join their ranks. Helsing refused to let go of his friend, and so the Blood Hunter that came to escort Rostam accepted to take Helsing with him as well.Being a much more sensitive child than most men from his family, Helsing found himself struggling a lot to fit in with this new lifestyle. He didn’t like weapons, was fascinated by all living creatures, and the sight of blood alone was enough to make him throw up. Overall, he thought of Blood Hunters as being vile creatures only in it for the money.Feeling the young boy’s insecurity, one of the Elders, Lady Rosemary, decided to take Helsing along with her on a particularly ghastly mission. She showed him the result and bloodshed of letting wild monsters go untamed, and after their return to the fortress, he came back with a changed perspective on the matter. Rather than seeing Blood Hunters as killers for hire, he now saw them simply as a different kind of soldier- one fighting an enemy more supernatural than those fighting in armies, and so he decided to dedicate himself to properly learning the ways of the Order of the Lycan to better be able to protect those around him. While in training, Helsing and Rostam grew increasingly close, but it wasn’t until their early adult years that the two became officially lovers. Things went well for the two of them- at least until the months leading up to the ceremony where both of them would be officially declared Hunters of the Order. Feeling like Helsing was still too sentimental for the job of a Blood Hunter, Lady Rosemary decided to put the young half-elf to the test with the help of Rostam. They pretended the latter had been found guilty for conspiring against the order- something than in a real situation would be punished with death, and ordered Helsing to be the one to execute the sentence.Much to the Elder’s disappointment, Helsing did not go through with the charge he had been given, and instead tried to help Rostam escape to avoid his fate. Because of the latter part, Helsing was the one who was instead charged with treason, and promptly banished from the lands under the Order of the Lycan’s protection.Although he did accept his fate, Helsing managed to sneak out with him the vial he was to drink from during the ceremony and performed the ritual by himself outside of Order grounds. This decision proved to be a mistake. Without anyone to guide him through the lycanthropy transformation, Helsing found it extremely hard to adjust to the hybrid serum’s abilities and managed to control those powers very poorly. He decided to try and return home, hoping to find his mother and reconnect with his tribe, yet when he arrived he was mostly seen as a curse rather than a blessing. The tribe members could see the change- they could sense he was tainted by Lycanthropy and shunned him from his home. The following argument led to him losing control of his lycan abilities and injuring his father. He never returned home after that.Helsing found himself lost in the woods, stuck in this werewolf form for almost a full year until he was found and taken in by a Cleric of Selûne, who helped him return to his normal form. Although he did not stay with the cleric for long, he promised to return with a worthy reward to thank her for her kindness. It took years for Helsing to be able to get in sync with his new lycan form, but eventually he managed to trust it enough to begin using it in his Blood Hunting endeavours. Now without an order to serve and only his own empathy to trust, he roams Faerûn in search for the next beast to kill, mostly going for monsters terrorising defenceless villages.

ABOUT

From a very young age, all Finch knew was how to make ends meet in the streets of Baldur’s Gate. Him and his older brother Armir were separated from their parents while the younger of the two was still very little, and cashing in on Finch’s cuteness, the two often found themselves running scams or stealing from passer-bys. One day during a very severe thunderstorm, the two had no choice but to seek shelter by breaking into the Stormshore Tabernacle, where Finch first came to know Mystra. He was intrigued by the magic shrine, and found himself being called to to.Following the encounter with the statue, Finch grew increasingly more curious and attuned to the Weave. He began switching from snatching money to ancient tomes, and in turn, that would lead him to attuning himself even more to magic. At some point, Finch befriended a kid from his neighbourhood, Enver Flymm, with who he had a very sweet but short lived romance with, however said kid mysteriously disappeared one day, never to be seen again. As Finch’s magic skills grew, he managed to start making a slightly more honest living by putting up magic performances in the town square. He became known to more and more people, but most agreed that his magic was still far from perfection. Even that didn’t deter Finch, though, as he started calling himself "The great and Amazing Finch, the Shining Star of the Gate".Somewhen in his early twenties, Finch re-encountered his childhood romance, who was now going by the name of Gortash instead of his real last name. The two of them reconnected and rekindled their childhood romance, growing just as close once again. Things wouldn’t stay like that forever, though. Finch began to notice how much Enver had changed, no longer the the sweet, albeit clever Enver he knew, but something else entirely. It all culminated in the day Enver got invited to an important nobility event- one he considered Finch not up to the standards of. Finch was publicly humiliated by his lover in front of his new associates of a higher status, leading Finch to never set foot in the upper city again. After that encounter, a cloud grew over Finch’s head. He already desired a higher status for the sake of security and stability, but now he desired it for something else- power and influence. He used his showmanship and street smarts so slowly climb up the ranks, putting up a front of fake nobility, however just as he became more known, one of his new acquaintances set him up in a trap- one which lead to him being abducted, tadpoled, and sent off on a nautiloid to become a true soul.

Taken into the cult of Bhaal as a child, Roza has been one of the god of murder’s most devout followers for as long as she remembers. She’s as cunning as she is ambitious, but unforeseen consequences have started to change her view of the world.

ABOUT

Being the youngest of two sisters born to wood elf and cambion parents, Rozalie didn’t have as much of a recollection of her biological family as her older sister Elyr did. She vaguely remembered living with her father in their cottage in the woods, but most of those memories are gone by now and more so facts she can recall. After her father was assassinated by a Bhaalist assassin, Roza found herself extremely susceptible to the murder god’s influence, even if she herself didn’t know that was it at the time. After their father’s passing, both her and Elyr got taken in by a paladin living in a temple of Mielikki near Baldur’s Gate. The sisters lived relatively normally while there, however there was always this strange force in the back of Roza’s mind compelling her to venture into the Shadow Cursed lands. Most times, either Elyr or their guardian would be there to stop her before it was too late, however on one such occasions, no one noticed fast enough and she found herself walking straight into the forest in the direction of Moonrise Towers. She eventually found herself face to face with Ketheric Thorm. The undead general looked after Rozalie for most of her formative years, using her as a way to cope with the loss of his daughter for the second time. However, Roza knew Moonrise Towers wasn’t her one true purpose, and soon after, she found herself in the cult of Bhaal’s lair underneath Baldur’s Gate, who indoctrinated her into the cult.Roza found herself living pretty well among cultists, be it because of her hellish ancestry or just her sheer will to survive at all costs, and by the time she reached her early twenties, she was appointed as a head recruiter, prowling the streets for vulnerable people to be taken into Bhaal’s clutches the same way she was. She learnt to be everything her current target needed, be it a mother figure, a support system or an object of desire, which helped her understand how to manipulate people more and more, which in turn allowed her to sink her claws into increasingly powerful targets. Before she knew it, thirty years since her original disappearance had gone by. She was the cult’s High Priestess and married to the chosen of Bhaal himself, the highest position she could possibly hope to achieve while not being a bhaalspawn. And things would have been as perfect as they could get in her situation if it wasn’t for Orin killing the Dark Urge. After the albino Dragonborn, Roza was the next on the deathbringer’s list.Left for dead in Moonrise Towers, Roza was found by Ketherick, who wasn’t about to lose a second daughter. She was handed over to Kressa Bonedaughter to be revived, however instead of being sent out on the nautiloid, she remained in Moonrise Towers, where she conspired her revenge against Orin until Thorm was defeated by a group of tadpoled adventurers, with who she teams up with on the way back to Baldur’s Gate.

COMPANION QUEST

Sins of the Bloodmother

Unlike most companions, Roza is only recruitable at the beginning of Act III, right after leaving to the road to Baldur’s Gate.Once leaving the shadow cursed lands, the party will have to roll a perception check. If they succeed, they’ll notice that there’s something stalking them through the path, though they won’t know what until they actually reach their next campsite right before Rivington. Once there, Roza will reveal herself by attacking a party member and holding them hostage while confronting them about Ketheric’s death. After the player knocks her out and has her up for interrogation, she’ll reveal that she’s on her way to Baldur’s Gate to settle a debt with Orin, but won’t go into detail about that just yet. She’ll propose a deal where she’ll help the party navigate Baldur’s Gate and get them access to otherwise harder to get to locations in exchange for help in taking down Orin.If the player is playing the Dark Urge, she’ll comment on how relieved she is to see that they are alright and that they’ll be a valuable asset in fighting back against Orin. She doesn’t realise that Durge has lost their memory at first, but if you comment on it, she’ll think you’re pretending to not remember anything for the sake of security and not pry any further. After the first long rest when Durge gets their memories back, Roza will have Bhaalist-specific dialogue if the player opens up about knowing their past now.If the player accepts Roza’s proposal, she becomes a playable character during Act III, and if they don’t, she’ll part ways with the party and head to the city alone in the quiet of the night since she has no tadpole. In the event she’s not picked as a companion, Roza will be then seen during Gortash’s coronation scene after siding as his ally, and will be an extra enemy fight during his boss fight, using randomised Wild Magic to affect the area of combat.IF ROZA IS A PLAYABLE CHARACTEROnce reaching the Open Hand Temple, it will be clear that Roza is familiar with the pattern happening with the recent murders. She won’t say how yet, not trusting the party fully except for the Dark Urge, but she will tell them that they should immediately try to find the other targets and collect their body parts, which she will insist on keeping no matter what. Giving her the body parts she requests will result in increasing her approval. After leaving the Temple and before reaching Wyrm’s Rock, a clearly malnourished child npc will go up to Roza to tell her that after having thought about it for some time, they have decided to accept her offer. Roza then tells the child that she’ll return with further instructions once the time is right.Tav will then be able to talk to her about what just happened, which Roza will dismiss at first. Trying to detect her thoughts will result in Roza sensing the magic and getting angry, which results in her returning to camp for the rest of the day.Once it’s night time, the player is then able to question her again in the form of a cutscene, where she’ll reveal that besides being the former high priestess, she was also a cult recruiter, always looking out for more people to join Bhaal’s ranks, including children like the one they came across. Tav can then confront her about how wrong indoctrinating innocent children is, which she won’t deny. She knows it’s a terrible thing that she’s doing, but she’ll only show remorse after rolling an 18 or higher persuasion check.Once at Gortash’s inauguration, she’ll hint at how long it has been since they last saw each other, a feeling that seems to be reciprocated by the now archduke. She’ll ask about Orin’s whereabouts as well as other information about what has happened since she’s been absent from the city. If Roza is in the party when Gortash proposes an alliance to kill Orin, she’ll insist that siding with him is the better option they have. Accepting the deal will increase her approval. In Baldur’s Gate proper, Roza’s quest will continue through finding and investigating the murder sites, and upon stumbling on Figaro’s murder attempt she’ll comment on how she’ll finally be able to get her redemption. Before dying, the changeling will comment on how there’s one last person not on the list that has an arrow pointed at their head, which causes Roza to immediately worry. While visiting Umberlee’s temple, the party will be able to find an albino tiefling already looting the main office. Roza will immediately walk up to the thief and begin scolding her, before revealing she’s in danger and demanding that she stays in camp for the foreseeable future. Roza will then reveal that the unknown looter is her daughter, Azalea, and that the assassin’s comment was a warning that Orin planned to go for her next. The player will then be able to sit down with Roza during a long rest where she’ll reveal that after killing her spouse (bhaal’s previous chosen) in Moonrise Towers, Orin also killed her. Roza was then brought back by Ketheric through necromancy unknowingly to Orin, and now the changeling is looking for Azalea in hopes of finishing off the last member of the Dark Urge’s bloodline, making her the only possible chosen. If the player chooses to romance Roza, this is the only time there is a proper romance cutscene. If the player is a tav, the scene will start with tav asking the Priestess if she wants them to stay with her for the night, which will lead to tav helping Roza braid her hair (something she mentions never letting anyone else do) that intimate moment will then lead to other types of intimacy. If the player is the Dark Urge, the scene will be about Roza helping Durge remember their previous romantic interactions. After their sex scene, Roza will engage on some pillow talk where she’ll mention having had second thoughts about her role in the cult ever since her daughter was born, but never having a way out. If the player is instead playing an embrace Durge, she’ll simply comment on how she’s happy to be able to help her lover reclaim their rightful throne. If Azalea is already in camp when Orin reveals herself to be the shapeshifter, it’ll be revealed that she has already kidnapped Azalea, and that she’s the one being held captive in the temple, prompting Roza to immediately want to leave to rescue her daughter.Having been stripped of her rank after her “death”, Roza asks to be the one standing before the murder tribunal so she can reclaim her title as unholy assassin once the Open Hand Temple murders have been solved. If Tav accepts, she’ll stand before Serovok and perform the ceremony at the murder tribunal. Depending on the options picked by the player up until that point, Roza will either go through and become an Unholy Assassin, marking her return to the Bhaalist ranks, or, if the player has convinced her before and tried to dissuade her, she’ll attack Serovok once she’s close enough, triggering the fight to start. After the murder tribunal, Roza’s quest will continue during Orin’s boss fight. She’ll confront Orin, and she will seem surprised to see Roza there. It won’t stop them from fighting, though. After Orin’s defeat, she’ll free and order Azalea to run as fast and far as she can away from the city, to somehwere that is safer. Depending on if she’s still a Bhaalist or not, Roza will then act two different ways.If she’s a Bhaalist, she’ll retrieve all the body parts collected from the murder sites to assemble a shrine and try to claim the place of Bhaal’s chosen. If the party tries to stop her, it’ll trigger her to turn into the Bloodmother form and start a secondary boss fight. If the party doesn’t object, she’ll be rewarded by Bhaal and become the cult’s absolute rule. She’ll let the player leave with Orion’s netherstone and encourage them to remain loyal to Gortash’s offer. In the event that the player is the embrace Dark Urge, she’ll encourage the player to be the one to ascend to chosen and she’ll simply return to being the temple’s high priestess. In the event of a redeemed Durge but unredeemed Roza, Roza will try to kill the Dark Urge for heresy, regardless of if the player is romancing her or not, resulting in her inevitable death. If she’s forsaken the cult, Roza will instead head to the cult novice’s dormitories and sneak everyone out to safety, freeing the same people she manipulated into joining the cult to begin with.Roza’s endings consist on her either being Bhaal’s High Priestess/Chosen, or on her going on a quest for redemption where she becomes a travelling sorceress trying to reconnect with her Mielikkian roots and helping people with her wild magic. If the player is romancing her, they’ll be able to stay with her regardless of what her outcome is. If the player is romancing her as Redeemed Durge, they’ll be able to chose between going into hiding from other Bhaalists or work together to take down the cult.
